Unprecedented PETA Lawsuit Tossed

February 15th, 2012 | Author: | Category: notable lawsuits

A federal judge in San Diego has dismissed a lawsuit filed by PETA against SeaWorld that claimed the whales kept at the park   were “enslaved.” The lawsuit sought to provide the whales   constitutional protection under the 13th Amendment, but the judge ruled the amendment only applies to humans. “As ‘slavery’ and ‘involuntary servitude’ are uniquely human     activities, as those terms have been historically and  contemporaneously applied, there is simply no basis to construe the Thirteenth Amendment as applying to non-humans,” the judge wrote.   Julie  Watson, Orlando Sentinel   02/08/2012
