According to a new study, residents are spending more time more time completing patient charts, often during times they would otherwise spend attending lectures. The cause appears to be related to inefficiencies in the electronic medical record system. The electronic records are slow, lack custom forms, and require residents to frequently switch pages. All of these issues add up to a 30% drop in resident productivity.
