A Missouri Supreme Court has struck down a seven-year-old law that capped medical malpractice awards for pain and suffering at $350,000. In a split decision, the court ruled the cap “infringes on the jury’s constitutionally protected purpose of determining the amount of damages sustained by an injured party.” Opponents of the court’s ruling said eliminating caps on damages will “harm hospitals, doctors, nurses and patients.”Blythe Bernhard, St. Louis Post Dispatch 08/01/2012
