The Institute of Medicine recently commissioned and released a report examining the quality of cancer care and recommendations for improvements. Despite having made tremendous improvements in treatments for cancer, the committee concluded that the cancer care delivery system is in crisis due to a growing demand for cancer care, increasing complexity of treatment, a shrinking workforce, and rising costs. In order to address the issues, all participants in the system must reevaluate their roles and work together to improve delivery of care.
